The Butler Conservation Fund endeavored to bring an exceptional outdoor education and recreation destination to life in rural central Maine. PRT offers over 25 kilometers of mountain bike and cross-country ski trails, along with 15 kilometers of snowshoe trails, complete with warming huts and a gear rental station. In winter, the groomed cross-country trails provide world-class skiing, featuring riverside vistas and stunning views of Katahdin, Maine’s highest peak. In summer, the trails offer scenic biking through pristine Maine woods, while the East Branch of the Penobscot River invites kayaking and canoeing adventures. The facilities also include the headquarters for the education and outreach component of PRT which hosts students from across Maine as they learn to safely and respectfully enjoy the Maine woods.
